Food for Thought

It is not so important to me that I was born in Granada, but I am
very grateful to have been born in Spain. Why? Because I have been
able to enjoy the benefits of a Mediterranean diet. In addition to
containing a lot of fresh friuts vegetables meats and fish, the
Mediterranean diet is rich in olive oil, which is very beneficial
to the health, and can help keep you free from many illnesses.

I think that your diet is affected by your enviorement, and the
rhythm of your life. If you have to wake up early to go to work, a
lot of the time you dont have the time to have breakfast at home.
Also many people are unable to go home for lunch becasuse they work
too far away and so have to eat in fast food restaurants such as
McDonald, Burger King or Telepizza.

I am currently living in Ireland. It´s a different culture here and
this affects diet too. Here we don't have access to the same
ingredients that we have in Spain. Here, to have a Mediterranean
diet is not so easy because where the ingredients are accessable,
they are quite expensive..

Fortunately I have my own supply of olive oil, which I carry with
me in my suitcase like gold, every time I come to Ireland. Whenever
I can, I buy fresh products like tomatoes, lettuce and
carrots Pour some olive oil over them, and hey presto, you
have a great salad.

I take advantage of my trips to Spain to bring back with me some
other Mediterranean food products such as 'jamón serrano', and pigs
bones to make 'cocido'. There are things that you can do without,
but there are others you can't.
